Bing Launch Has Google Scared

Google co-founder Sergey Brin is very concerned over the launch of Microsoft’s Bing search engine and has put together a team of top engineers to implement urgent upgrades to the Google web service. This is according to a New York Post articleabout the search giant. According to the Post’s sources, Brin is personally leading the team of engineers in an effort to determine how Bing’s search algorithm differs from that of Google.

Microsoft launched it’s new “decision engine” just two weeks ago and has created a marketing budget of as much as $100 million to try and grab market share for Bing. While early numbers show that Bing increased Microsoft’s share of the search engine market during its first two weeks, there have also been some indications that these users are not sticking with Bing.

It isn’t clear exactly what it is about Bing that has Sergey Brin and Google so concerned, but such hands-on involvement by Brin is quite unusual. It is very unlikely that Bing will be able to knock Google from the top of the search engine world, but it could very well take a bite out of its total market share.
