Our favorite search engine is rolling out the Beta launch for Google Wave Septemeber 30th to 100,000 lucky customers. For those of you who haven’t heard the buzz, Google’s new revolutionary “personal communication and collaboration tool” has been highly anticipated among not only webmasters, but marketers, small businesses and of course even the casual user. Google wave combines various aspects of email, chat,  instant messaging and social networking (to name a few) to create an all-in-one real time email and communication platform.  This product will also be open source, meaning that a plethora of apps and widgets similar to those built for Facebook will soon surface. Alpha tester webmasters have already begun to build applications for the new Wave. Some of the most notable features, documented from our friends at Mashable are:

  • Embeddability: Waves can be embedded on any blog or website.
  • Real-time: You’ll be able to see what someone is typing in real time, eliminating the typical lag period in an intstant messaging conversation
  • Applications and Extensions: Just like a Facebook, webmasters can build their own apps withn a Wave.
  • Wiki-like functionality: Conversations and collaboration in Google Wave cab be edited by those participating in the conversation. Therefor, you will be able to correct, redfine and append information as well as contribute commentary.
  • Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.
  • Natural language: Google Wave can automatically correct your spelling for the appropriate context.
  • Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access. Yes, we love this one!

I am certainly looking forward to the many possibilities of Google Wave and look forward to eventually incorporating some of its features into our blog. Stay tuned for more updates on Google Wave.

We’re really excited too, Nick. I think the part i’m anticipating the most are the additional features that will come with time from webmasters utilizing the API, similar to the evolution of the iPhone.
