For those of you who watched the game yesterday, you may have caught the Google Superbowl ad in the 3rd quarter. Or maybe you heard about google super bowl ad 150x150 Google Superbowl Ad a Surpriseit on Saturday as Eric Schmidt Tweeted about it. It was a rather unusual marketing move for Google, as they have more than 72% search market share. Google talked about the commercial entitled “Parisian Love” on their blog saying:

If you watched the Super Bowl this evening you’ll have seen a video from Google called “Parisian Love“. In fact you might have watched it before, because it’s been on YouTube for over three months. We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search. Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.

If you like it too, we hope you’ll watch the others. Enjoy.

Many are asking why they’ve spent so much on an advertisement when they’re already dominating the market. Before the Superbowl that video had 1.3 million views, now just about 24 hours after that commercial aired it has almost double. I think it was a fantastic push to widen their audience. I don’t know that i’d call it a touchdown, but i’d say it was more effective than Peyton Manning in the 4th quarter!
