Is Link Buying Such A Bad Thing?

If you’ve ever tried to get the owner of a PR 4 or 5 website to link to your site, you know how difficult this can be. The unfortunate fact is that they have no real benefit in doing so. Gaining such backlinks can be extremely valuable to the Pagerank of a website, especially of young, start-up sites. The more websites that Google finds linking to your page, the more valuable your page will appear to be. So, how can you go about getting these links? Buy them!

Buying links on a website is a very touchy subject with Google and the other search engines. They generally see link buying as a black-hat form of SEO manipulation, but in reality, it is just like many other forms of paid advertising. They are constantly on the lookout for websites that are trying to “beat the system” and will heavily penalize any that are found to be doing so. That said, I link buying can be a very effective strategy if done correctly.

One way to reduce the risk of running into trouble with the search engines is to only buy links on reputable websites. Generally speaking, if the site has a PR of 4+, it is most likely considered to be pretty reputable. Also, be sure not to buy links on any sites that make it very clear that their favorite links list is full of purchased spots. Google will figure it out and will not be happy about it.

I think buying a couple of high profile website links can be very beneficial to a start-up website,  but don’t go out and buy 10 different links. The key is to make your links look as natural as possible and have them show up over time, not all at once. If you are nervous about the risks of buying links, try signing up for a service like Article Marketer and submit a bunch of articles. You’ll be amazed how quickly your backlinks can build through this method.
