Why Local Search Is So Important

Local search results with pin pointed listings on Google Maps have been around for years, but nowadays it is becoming even more important to get listed in local search real estate on SERP’s. Some research shows almost 30 percent of searches contain location data such as city, state or zip code. Local search results take precedence over organic results and often organic results are pushed below the fold with adwords and upon the return of local search ads. I’ve taken a screenshot of a SERP for a popular search term and highlighted the first organic listing which in this case appears just above the fold. As you can see, 95% of the page is paid or local listings, meaning a number one organic ranking isn’t going to capture nearly as much traffic as a search without local listings.
