This is a rather simple concept, however I see it over and over, so I figure it’s worth mentioning… When doing keyword research, one of the first things you need to look for is whether a not a keyword has any traffic. If there is little to no traffic for the keyword or keyword phrase, a number one position won’t do you any good. Focus on keywords that will bring you traffic once you get top rankings. I’ve seen it so many times, a SEO will come to me and say “hey, look I’m ranked #1 for such and such keyword,” however that number one position is worth nothing because there are less than 100 searches a month. Now if we’re talking a Mesothelioma related term than it might be worth the potential 50 leads you may bring in with that ranking, however for most businesses a top ranking for a keyword that doesn’t have a high search volume is worth nothing. Now show me a number one ranking for a term that gets 100,000+ searches per month… Now we’re talking!
