Why .org’s provide SEO benefit

In a recent post, we wrote about the backlink value of .edu and .gov sites. This has a lot to do with why .org’s can be so powerful for “link juice.” Many .org’s are affiliated with government and educational events and activities, therefore they tend to have a higher propensity for having backlinks from those authority sites. Hence the value of those links being carried through to the .org site. However, not all .org sites are valuable from a linking perspective. Anyone can purchase a .org domain and put a site up, so you don’t get instant value with a .org domain, there is just a higher probability that you will find a .org with SEO benefit as opposed to other TLD’s.

Gugus, owning a .org domain requires the same registration information that a .com or .net requires, however it is understood that .org’s are recommended for not for profit organizations.
