I used to own and operate several web directories, although I have finally sold off just about all of them at this point. Google and the search engines have been giving less and less credit to links from these directories and I just haven’t seen the value in non-authority general web directories lately.
Through the process of getting rid of my web directory sites, I did hang onto one. Affiliate Marketing Linx was actually the first directory that I started myself and it used to be a PR 3 site with excellent internal Pagerank, as well. Unfortunately, I have slacked off on the link-building for Affiliate Marketing Linx and just haven’t devoted the time that the site truly deserves. The main website’s Pagerank has dropped to PR 2 and many of the internal pages have dropped in rank also.
Despite the PR decline of Affiliate Marketing Linx, I believe that my intentions for the directory remain strong and I have decided to give the site some attention and build it back up to the status it deserves. The original goal of AML was not just to generate backlinks for marketing related websites, but I fully intended for the site to serve as a high-quality resource for online marketers. I hoped that by restricting listings to sites that were thoroughly reviewed and those that actually provide unique content to visitors.
If you get a chance, please take a look at Affiliate Marketing Linx and feel free to suggest any changes that you think would make the directory more useful to marketers. I also always appreciate quality link submissions, so even if it isn’t your website…please feel free to make a submission or rate the websites already listed.
