Yesterday we wrote about Google’s algorithm for determining which tweets are displayed in real time search. Today I’d like to share with you further speculation as to what might affect Google’s choice to list your tweets in the next live stream for popular searches. As you know, Twitter’s popularity is dramatically increasing and it is becoming just another tool for marketers to add to the mix to drive traffic, communicate with customers and build a brand. Google is now delivering live search results from Twitter feeds in their SERP’s in order to keep up with the consumer demand for instant information retrieval and deliver relevant information for trending topics. Google engineers have enlightened us on only couple aspects of the Twitter results algorithm and i have some speculation as to other influential factors that go into Google’s selection of Tweets to displayvia SERP’s:![]()
- Number of Followers
- Hashtags kept to a minimum
- Influence of Followers & Followers Followers
- Number of Tweets (overall & per day)
- Followers to Following Ratio
- Validity of Correlation Between Tweet & External Link
- Uniqueness of Tweet
- Number of Time Listed
- Number of Retweets
As a friendly reminder, at this point this is purely speculation however well worth taking into consideration if you’re trying to use twitter to drive additional traffic to you site/blog.
