Nope, not any more. According to Cris Pierry, Senior Director of Search Yahoo, Yahoo has finally dropped the use of the meta keywords tag in their search ranking algorithm as announced at the recent SMX east conference. Yahoo, in fact is the last major search engine to drop this factor fromt heir algorithm, as it is an easy manipulation to a page that bears almost no significance anymore with regards to how a website ranks.

I guess this means it’s a meta that people should just drop at this point then? I don’t know why I’m feeling this hesitancy to do it, as if I feel we’re being conned because of all those people who spammed keywords in the past.

I’ll say this. The search engines haven’t quite figured that any time they change up something, there will be people who will go nuts trying to find a way to give them just what they want. The number of requests I get from people who want to link with me is astounding. And some of them are demanding as to exactly how they want to list you. Yet, when you visit their pages, you realize they’ve got you on a hidden page, so that no one will ever find you. In essence, they’re link farming, and I won’t go for it. If people can’t find my link, or it’s buried between lots of businesses that have nothing to do with mine, that’s just not going to get it done in my opinion.
